When To Do What You Love

When should you follow your passion instead of just going for what is “sensible”. Paul Graham (of Y Combinator) tries to answer this question. I am lucky enough to be able to work with something I am passionate about, so this blog post was of course a good read!

Automating Processes with Software is HARD

An interesting and long post about how hard it is to automate stuff. Interesting read for all programmers, designers and managers I guess.

The ability to automate hinges not just on the ability to know the steps to take for predefined inputs, and not even the steps to take if some inputs are erroneous or incomplete, but what to do if you can’t even specify the inputs.

Redshirts - John Scalzi

Scalzi does it again with a sci-fi book full of humour. If you know what the title references you can probably guess what the book is about. The main characters in the book are people who are normally extras in a science fiction show, expendable people who die in a dramatic moment just before the commercial break. The book is about these redshirts trying to escape their fate. A very fun read, and surprisingly deep at times, thoroughly recommended.
